New airlift recirculation for Bionest’s Zenith septic system

3 February 2026

recirculation par injection d'air (airlift) pour système septique Zenith de Bionest

Effective May 1, 2026, Bionest will remove the recirculation pump from its new Zenith onsite residential wastewater treatment systems, thereby simplifying installation, operation, and maintenance.

Recirculation, which remains essential to achieving the expected treatment performance levels of the Zenith system, will now be provided by an airlift pump system. A limited fraction of the air produced by the system’s aerator will be injected into a vertical pipe located in the 1/3 portion of the biological reactor. The injected air creates an airlift effect and drives the movement of treated water back to the primary reactor.

“This significant change reflects our commitment to continually improving and simplifying our Zenith residential system,” says Pierre-Yves Charette, President and CEO, Americas, Bionest.

This change has been approved by the Bureau de normalisation du Québec, allowing the Zenith system to maintain its certification under standard NQ 3680-910, as required in Québec by the Environment Quality Act, chapter Q-2, r. 22 (Regulation respecting wastewater disposal and treatment for isolated dwellings), administered by the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs.
